It turns out the Birth Centers listed in my insurance are not Natural Birth Centers, but rather hospitals that call their ob unit a birth center. I found the two hospitals I will be deciding between call their units the "Family Birth Center of ..."that hospital. If I wanted to go to an independant birth center I could pay of out pocket and the total cost would be about 4k, doesn’t really seem reasonable considering my co-pays for dr visits and a hospital stay will only be about $400.
I have an appointment on the 25th with my current dr, and the hospital she delivers at gives tours on the first Wednesday of the month, so we will probably be doing that in September. Now I need to find out about getting a tour of the other hospital and how to go about meeting the drs that deliver there without switching medical groups before a final decision has to be made on September 19.
