Broken

Keelin’s napping mechanism is broken and has been for awhile now. Once I figure out how to settle her down and get her to fall asleep, which really only takes about 5 - 10 minuets it’s just ridiculous that we do the same song and dance 5 times a day, I cannot get her to stay asleep for more than 30 min. For awhile I would pick her up and put her back to sleep until the 1 ½ - 2 hr nap period was over. That got old so I read a book (they are always so helpful) and spent about a week sitting next to the pack and play, when she would wake up without picking her up I would turn her on her side, pat her on the back, and make the stupid shhsing noise until she fell back to sleep. It seemed that she learned how to fall back to sleep and for about a week or so I did get good naps out of her, and than the started waking again. The problem is now when I try and put her back to sleep she gets mad because she’s awake and happy and I’m standing there not picking her up or talking to her. I tried to leave her in the bed and not let her see me to see if she would go back to sleep but she doesn’t, she just lays there and happily kicks her feet and talks to the light fixture and her changing table thing. I thought maybe I was expecting too much and all’s she needed was 30 min naps, after all she does sleep 10+ hours straight each night. Last night we were at Barns.and.noble and I saw another book, this “expert” says if a kid doesn’t sleep for at least 90 minuets at a time they are not getting the full benefits of a nap and in a nut shell will be developmentally slow and have broken bones (or something like that). Babies Keelin’s age should be getting 16-18 hours of sleep a day so even with 10+ hours at night she should be napping longer and really she'd I’d be much happier with longer nap periods. This expert suggested finding what will keep your baby asleep and do that, once she is used to sleeping for longer periods of time ease her back into her bed. Well guess what gets Keelin to stay asleep for a long period of time

There exists a very similar picture of my mom and her first born

Keelin has never slept in our bed and has been in her own room for the last 5 or 6 weeks so it baffles me that she can sleep so well at night but I can’t even get 90 consecutive minuets out of her during the day unless she is on me. And while I get the logic of do what you can to get her into the habit of sleeping for a 90 minuet period of time and than get her to do so in her bed, I don’t think this is going to work out for me and my quest to be productive during the day so I am going to need to figure out some other thing that keeps her asleep and fast.
