The first night in her new bed was in no way a true indication of how things would go.
Night #2 was almost an hour of crying and me putting her back into her bed before she finally settled down and went to sleep.
Nap on day #3 was a repeat of night #2, night #3 was about 30 – 40 min of crying and me putting her back in bed, which actually made me think we were making progress.
Nap on day #4 was almost 2 hours of crying, kicking, and me putting her back in bed, she never did fall asleep. She fell asleep during her bed time stories on Night #4.
I tried to get her down for a nap for just over an hour on day #5 before I decided there would be no nap on that day either. She did not fall asleep during her stories on night #5 but because of exhaustion only cried for about 20 min, I don’t think she tried to get out of the bed, but it was no fun none the less.
On night #5 she woke up around 11 and would not stay asleep in her bed. I spent an hour and a half picking her up and putting her down, Pablo tried for an hour and a half, and than at 2am I decided I had to do something for my heart burn and pee so I brought her downstairs with me to eat an apple. She was delirious, which made the situation a little easier to handle. She was laughing and squealing, and shaking. We went back upstairs, rocked, and at 3 am I was able to leave her in her bed. She woke up at 3:45am and I brought her in bed with me and she slept there the rest of the night.
The morning of day #6 she told me she didn’t like her bed, which made me think maybe it was too many changes. I rocked her to sleep for her nap and we both slept for 3 hours, it was lovely.
I decided to spend the next couple of weeks talking about her going to sleep in her bed, encouraging her to go to sleep in her bed, and giving her the opportunity to get in her bed rather than being rocked.
On night #6 after her stories I asked her if she wanted to get in her bed, she did but she wanted to take a book with her. All week she had been trying to take books with her to bed, and when she would get out of her bed she would try and grab a book before I put her back in. Since I wasn’t truly trying to get her to fall asleep, but just get comfortable being in her bed after having her tell me she didn’t like it I decided to let her take the book with her. I sat next to her and noticed her getting the sleepy stare, so I turned on the nightlight and off the overhead light and a few minuets later she was asleep.
