We Are Renters

We moved into our current house a little over a year ago. The management company is very easy going which is usually a plus. The house is a neat old house with neat old house things; a basement, 2 fireplaces, a breakfast nook, and old plumbing. Since moving in I’ve had to put drano in our bath tub just about every other week to keep the tub from filling while we shower. They sent someone out about a week ago to snake the pipes, I’m attributing the amount of time it took to get someone here to their easygoingness. The tub is draining great but now the toilet is sluggish, which is stressing me out because I loath the thought of the toilet overflowing.

The other fun plumbing issue we’ve had since moving in is a leaking sink in the same bathroom. It started out as a drip and I thought maybe just a washer needed to be replaced. The drip turned into a leak which turned into a steady run. My dad came by one day and being the genius he is, (or maybe just the dummy I am) suggested we turn the water off from the pipe. Having to turn the hot water on and off from the pipe was a bit of a pain but at least we weren’t wasting tons of water (which we pay for), and we were sure our super laid back management company would read the friendly reminders we send in with our rent and get around to fixing it sooner or later. An amazing thing happened about a week ago, no they didn’t send someone out to fix the leak and no the leak didn’t fix itself; the water began to run even with the water turned off at the pipe. As I sit here I have the pleasure of hearing the steady stream of dollar bills being bled from my pocket. I decided that if we don’t hear anything by the 20th of this month in the way of them sending someone I am going to call a plumber and deduct the cost from next months rent, they can attribute this to my ranoutofpatientness.

You should not even give them to the 20th a year should have been enough time for them to take care of it. That is one thing I hate is wasting water. And you are paying for this in two ways both the water and the gas it cost to heat the water since it is the hot water that is leaking.
Your dad knew to do this because this happened at another rental but not as bad. The best memory of a rental is when we had hot water in the toliet. We complained and got evicded. But I don't think it was because we complained but more becuase we were from the hippie generation. If you get what I am saying.

Holy cow. You weren't kidding about that "leak". That's horrible. You sure you don't want to just give them a direct phone call and if they don't take care of it pronto, then get someone out there yourself even sooner? Maybe a picture would help them! Or better yet, when you call your plumber and deduct the amount from your rent include this blog picture. It's hard to argue with a leak like that!
